Ricardas Berankis vs. Pablo Andujar – Prediction (23.10.2019)

Preview and players comparison.

While Pablo Andujar has won only 24 matches on indoor hardcourt so far in his career, Richard Berankis has racked up nearly 40 wins on the surface in the last 22 months alone, which makes him the firm favorite in this first-round encounter.

Ricardas Berankis snapped his four-match losing run on tour with a three-set comeback win over Hugo Nys in the qualifying stages of ATP Basel a couple of days ago. He later received a walkover from the in-form Gregoire Barrere as he booked his berth in the main draw. The top-ranked Lithuanian’s disappointing three-set defeat against Roberto Carballes Baena (Spain) in the first round of ATP Moscow last week was his second opening-round defeat on indoor hardcourt this year. He has won an impressive 15 matches on the surface so far in 2019 (15/5), which earned him two titles in Drummondville Challenger and Rennes Challenger. Ricardas Berankis, making his main draw debut in Basel in 2018, enjoyed his time as he made his way through the qualifying stages and upset Milos Raonic in the first round before losing to Federico Delbonis in the second.

Pablo Andujar surprised himself with some excellent wins on outdoor hardcourt in recent months but couldn’t replicate the form on to the indoor hardcourt as he lost to the Italian lucky-loser Gianluca Mager in the first round of ATP Stockholm last week. It was the veteran Spaniard’s second defeat in two matches on indoor hardcourt this year as he previously failed against Jo Wilfried Tsonga in the first round of ATP Metz last month. Notably, Pablo Andujar managed to win the first set in both of those matches.
