Alex de Minaur vs Adrian Andreev – Prediction – ATP Antalya (Turkey) 9.1.2020

H2H: de Minaur v Andreev – comparison.

Adrian Andreev has played only three main draw matches on the main tour so far in his young career, and two of them have ended in defeats against Australians — Matthew Ebden in Sofia 2019 and John Millman in 2020. The teenager once again faces an Aussie on the main tour, and it would be extremely difficult for him to overcome this test at this stage of his career.

Alex de Minaur, for the fifth consecutive year, began his season with a win as he comfortably dispatched the struggling Malek Jaziri in straight sets in the first round of ATP Antalya on Friday. The Aussie started the match as the overwhelming favorite and was in complete control of the contest, creating ten breakpoint chances on the Tunisian’s serve and not exposing any on his own serve, 6-2 6-1. The top-ranked Australian delivered excellent results in his first outing of the previous three seasons — semifinalist and quarterfinalist in Brisbane in 2018 and 2019 and defeated Alexander Zverev and Denis Shapovalov in the ATP Cup in 2020 — and he would certainly fancy his chances of progressing deep in Antalya this week, especially considering the strength of the field. Alex de Minaur needed ten months to make his first quarterfinal appearance in ATP Tour events last year, but he is now a win away from reaching the quarterfinal in the first week of the 2021 tennis season.

Adrian Andreev got a comfortable opponent in the first round of ATP Antalya, and he made the most of it to register his career’s first-ever main draw win on the main tour. The 19-year-old Bulgarian broke Marsel Ilhan’s serve four times in two sets and won over 70% of his first-serve points to secure a straightforward win, 6-4 6-3. It was the world #564 Adrian Andreev’s third consecutive straight-set win of the campaign as he previously got the better of Lukas Klein and Andrea Vavassori in the qualifying stages, 6-3 7-6 and 6-4 7-6. This is exactly the kind of start Adrian Andreev would have hoped for, especially after producing some promising results on the lower-level circuits in 2020 and finishing the year by lifting the maiden ITF title of his career in Heraklion.
