Marin Cilic is still struggling to make an impact on tour this year as he has gone 13/11 at all levels in these ten months and hasn’t even made a quarterfinal appearance on the main tour. As a result, the former world #3 is down to #40 in the latest ATP Tour rankings. The big-serving Croatian has won 122 matches on indoor hardcourts so far in his career and his previous outing on the surface this year came in Marseille, where he defeated Ilya Ivashka in three sets in the first round before losing a three-setter to Denis Shapovalov in the second.

Ricardas Berankis has performed comparatively better since the restart as he made it to the second round in Cincinnati Masters (as a qualifier) and French Open and third round of the US Open. Two of his three losses since the tour resumption have come at the hands of world #1 Novak Djokovic. This will be the top-ranked Lithuanian’s first match on indoor hardcourt this year, but he will be quite confident as he has got a terrific record on the surface. The 30-year-old won an impressive 18 matches on indoor hardcourts last year and has won at least ten matches on the surface every year since 2009.
