Milos Raonic fired 18 aces, did not face a breakpoint on his serve, and broke Aljaz Bedene’s serve thrice to score a superb straight-set win in the first round of Paris Masters, 6-3 6-2. It was an excellent performance on both serve and return from the big-serving Canadian, especially considering he was forced to withdraw from his quarterfinal match in Antwerp a couple of weeks ago due to abdominal strain.

Former world #3 Milos Raonic will now look to avoid a hat-trick of second-round exit from Paris Masters. He is a former runner-up (2014) of this tournament and made it to the semifinal once in 2016 but failed at this stage during his recent two visits in 2018 and 2019 against Roger Federer (withdrawn) and Dominic Thiem, respectively.

Pierre Hugues Herbert registered his first main draw win in Paris Masters since 2013 by defeating fellow struggler Tennys Sandgren in three sets earlier this week. After failing against Novak Djokovic in the second round of his debut Paris Masters campaign back in 2013, the Frenchman competed here five times but couldn’t register a main draw win even once. The big-serving Frenchman had been struggling to win matches since the restart, and things got worse for him in Vienna last week, where he suffered a massive upset at the hands of ATP Tour debutant and world #495 Vitaliy Sachko in QR1, despite winning the first set 6-1, 6-1 4-6 3-6.
