Novak Djokovic vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas – Prediction (ATP Paris – 01.11.2019)

Preview and players comparison.

This will be a rematch of the quarterfinal clash in Shanghai Masters a couple of weeks ago when Stefanos Tsitsipas stun the defending champion and world #1 Novak Djokovic in three sets to register one of the biggest wins of his career, 3-6 7-5 6-3.

Top seed Novak Djokovic is through to the quarterfinal of Paris Masters after defeating Kyle Edmund 7-6 6-1 on Thursday. The Serbian hasn’t looked entirely convincing so far this week in Paris as he was made to work hard for the win by the French lucky loser Corentin Moutet in the second round, 7-6 6-4. Regardless of the result in Paris Masters this week, Novak Djokovic is destined to lose the #1 spot to arch-rival Rafael Nadal next Monday. However, he’s still got a chance to finish the season as the year-end #1, and for that to happen, the Serbian will have to stop the Spaniard from winning the title this week. Novak Djokovic is a four-time former champion of Prais Masters and also finished as the runner-up to Karen Khachanov during his recent visit in 2018 — defeated Marin Cilic in three sets in the quarterfinal.

“Obviously he’s [Tsitsipas] one of the best players in the world. He’s already an established player. He’s all-around player, plays very well on all surfaces,” said Novak Djokovic ahead of the quarterfinal clash.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, who failed to win a match during his debut Paris Masters campaign in 2018, secured straight-set wins over Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur to confirm his berth in the quarterfinal of this edition, 7-6 6-3 and 6-3 6-4, respectively.
The Greek youngster went through a rough patch during the North American hardcourt swing but has recovered and done well in recent weeks, having reached at least the semifinal in his previous three outings on the main tour — runner-up in Beijing and semifinalist in Shanghai Masters and Basel last week.

So far in this hugely successful 2019 season, Stefanos Tsitsipas has lifted two ATP Tour titles and posted eight semifinal (or better) results, and as a result, he’s been rewarded with a place in the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals in London. Stefanos Tsitsipas is arguably the toughest opponent for any Big Three players at the moment as he seems to have the fighting spirit and mental strength to challenge these players consistently. Tsitsipas is only one of the two players to have registered at least one win against each of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer in these ten months and expect him to offer a stern challenge in Paris as well.
