Miomir Kecmanovic needed three sets and over two hours to overcome the Indian lucky loser Sumit Nagal in the first round of ATP Cologne on Monday. The Serbian made a terrible start to the match as he found himself 0-5 down and got broken while serving for the second set, 4-6 7-6 6-1. The Serbian youngster enjoyed the best week of his career in Kitzbuhel last month, where he defeated the likes of former world #3 Kei Nishikori and the in-form Yannick Hanfmann to lift the maiden ATP Tour title of his career. However, world #39 Miomir Kecmanovic failed to build on that excellent result, and in fact, he couldn’t even win back-to-back matches in any of the three events that he has entered since ATP Kitzbuhel. Miomir Kecmanovic made it to the semifinal on the indoor hardcourts in New York earlier this year, but his most recent outing on the surface ended in the second-round defeat against Cameron Norrie in St.Petersburg last week.

Adrian Mannarino also faced a lucky loser in the first round of ATP Cologne earlier this week, and he delivered a dominant straight-set win by dropping only four games against Alexei Popyrin, 6-2 6-2. It was a much-needed confidence-boosting result for the left-handed Frenchman, who was winless in five matches before entering ATP Cologne and hadn’t won a main draw match in ATP Tour events since ATP Acapulco back in February. While Miomir Kecmanovic won a title on the main tour a few weeks ago, former world #22 Adrian Mannarino seeks his first quarterfinal appearance at this level since ATP Moscow (IH) 2019.
