Mikael Ymer vs. Jannik Sinner – Prediction (ATP Milan – 06.11.2019)

Preview and players comparison.

Though both of these talented players are capable of beating each other, Jannik Sinner’s ability to produce his best tennis under pressure and playing in front of the home fans gives him the upper-hand in this exciting matchup.

Jannik Sinner’s breakthrough season keeps getting better as he kickstarted his debut ATP Next Gen Finals campaign with an impressive four-set comeback win over Frances Tiafoe, 3-4 4-2 4-2 4-2. It was the Italian’s second win against Frances Tiafoe in two months. He previously defeated the American in the quarterfinal of ATP Antwerp (IH) a few weeks ago but lost the following match to Stan Wawrinka in straight sets — his first-ever semifinal appearance on the main tour. With the win against Frances Tiafoe, the Italian teenager became the first wildcard to register a win in Milan. Gianluigi Quinzi and Liam Caruana entered the previous editions of ATP Next Gen Finals with wildcard but failed to secure a win, which even led to debates on handing wildcards to home players. However, unlike the previous two wildcard entrants, Jannik Sinner richly deserves this opportunity as he has managed to deliver impressive results on tour in these ten months and very nearly secured direct qualification for the ATP Next Gen Finals. The talented Italian has bagged a whopping 57 wins on tour so far in 2019, and 23 of those wins have come on indoor hard court, which earned him consecutive titles in Bergamo Challenger and ITF Trento.

Mikael Ymer showcased his potential with a solid four-set win over Ugo Humbert in his first round-robin match on Tuesday, 4-3 1-4 4-2 4-1. It was an impressive result for the Swede, especially considering the Frenchman has got a terrific record on indoor hardcourt. Out of all ten players (including WC and alternates) that have traveled to Milan this week, Mikael Ymer has made very least impact on the main tour this year. However, he would still be quite confident as he has collected over 50 wins and lifted four Challenger titles in these ten months. The 21-year-old Swede even went through a ten-match winning streak on indoor hardcourt (Orleans Challenger and Mouilleron-Le-Captif Challenger) a few weeks ago, which helped him attain his career-high ranking of #73.
