Magda Linette (Poland) vs. Heather Watson (Great Britain) – Score prediction (11.10.2019)

Overview.

Watson owns a 6-8 win-loss in WTA quarterfinals. She has not got past such a hurdle in Asia since winning her maiden career title in 2012, Osaka. Linette is the firm favorite to end the Brit’s unexpected run, having won the pair’s first meeting just a few days ago in the qualifyings of Beijing, 6-2, 6-1, in 61 minutes.

Magda Linette stayed on the court for 18 minutes before Kurumi Nara retired while trailing 0-4 (right thigh). The Pole, who has played all editions of Tianjin, will accept this result as she was 0-4 in the second rounds here. She also didn’t break a sweat while starting the week with a 6-3, 6-1 win over McHale. Linette has amassed nearly half of her wins in the season in the last six tournaments alone. Having not reached a WTA final since her maiden one at 2015 Tokyo (International), the 27-year-old has gone on to claim her maiden career title at the Bronx in August and finish runner-up to Muchova at Seoul last month.

Heather Watson did not just defeat second seed Qiang Wang to create the upset of the week but did so emphatically. Posting a far better ratio in winners (22 to 13) and unforced errors (19 to 31), the Brit defeated the home favorite, 6-3, 6-0, in 78 minutes for her first top 30 win since 2017 Wimbledon (Sevastova). Watson is into a quarterfinal on mainland Chinese soil for the first time ever. Though ranked no. 125, the former world no. 38 did enter the week with a couple of decent sub-tour-level runs in the last two months: title at W10 Vancouver — biggest trophy since 2016 Monterrey — and semifinal at 125K New Haven.
