Karen Khachanov vs. Jan Lennard Struff – Prediction (ATP Paris – 29.10.2019)

Khachanov vs Struff – Preview and players comparison.

Defending champion Karen Khachanov will be motivated to do well this week, and he deservedly starts as the favorite. However, the Russian hasn’t been entirely convincing with his performance in these ten months, and it wouldn’t be a big surprise if Jan Lennard Struff manages to level the H2H series (1-2) with a win here.

This is arguably world #8 Karen Khachanov’s (Russia) biggest test so far in his young career as he will be fighting to retain the Paris Masters title as well as for his position in the top ten of ATP World Rankings. Despite not winning a title and playing his first semifinal match of the season only in Montreal a couple of months ago, Karen Khachanov is sitting comfortably at #8, but an early exit in Paris this week could do serious damage to his rankings. The Russian’s debut Paris Masters campaign in 2017 ended in the first round, but he impressed last year by defeating the likes of Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem, and Novak Djokovic in straight sets to lift the biggest title of his career. Karen Khachanov has won four ATP Tour titles so far in his career, and the most recent title-defense campaign came in Moscow earlier this month, where he failed in the quarterfinal against Andreas Seppi in three sets.

Jan Lennard Struff (Germany) registered only his third main draw win in Paris Masters in six appearances by defeating Yoshihito Nishioka in the first round of this edition on Monday. He defeated Stan Wawrinka in his only previous second-round match in Paris in 2016 and will be hoping for a similar result this Tuesday. The big-serving German, who is enjoying his breakthrough season on the main tour so far in 2019, has scored three wins against top 10 players in Masters 1000 events in these ten months with the recent such win coming against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round of Cincinnati Masters.
