Since defeating Victor Hanescu in two tiebreakers as the huge underdog during his debut campaign way back in 2013, the former Russian #1 Karen Khachanov has played four matches in this tournament and lost them all in straight sets. Karen Khachanov won the biggest title of his career on the indoor hardcourts in Paris (Masters) in 2018, but since then, he has gone 4/9 on the surface with the recent such match ending in a three-set defeat at the hands of Aljaz Bedene in the first round of ATP Marseille earlier this year.

James Duckworth makes his ATP St.Petersburg debut on Tuesday, but he already began his doubles campaign as he played two qualifying matches over the weekend and won one against the American pair of John Jeffrey Wolf and Mackenzie McDonald. The 28-year-old Aussie, who returned from the lengthy injury break in 2018 and worked hard on the Challenger circuits to improve his ranking, began his 2020 season from where he left off in 2019 — semifinal in ATP Pune and champion in Bangalore Challenger. However, the tour suspension came at the wrong time for him as he seems to have lost the momentum and is struggling to win matches at the moment.
