Mischa Zverev was struggling against lower-ranked opponents on the ITF circuits earlier this month but dropped only five games against John Millman in the first round of ATP Cologne on Monday, 6-1 6-4. It was the wildcard entrant’s first win on the main tour this season. He endured a tough time on tour in 2019 by losing 25 of his 34 matches, and things haven’t changed much so far in 2020. Since the start of the 2019 season, only once the former world #25 Mischa Zverev has managed to score consecutive main draw wins in ATP Tour events. The veteran German defeated Tim Smyczek and Guido Andreozzi to reach the quarterfinal in Newport (G) last year.

Hubert Hurkacz made a terrific comeback from 1-5 down in the second set to wrap up the match in straight sets against the lucky loser Marc Polmans earlier this week, 6-2 7-5. The Pole youngster would be relieved after getting the job done in straight sets as he has been struggling for confidence since the restart. He has gone 1-2 in second-round matches since the tour resumption with that sole win coming against the in-form Andrey Rublev in Rome Masters. Hubert Hurkacz, who posted terrific results on indoor hardcourts in lower-level events in the past, is yet to win consecutive main draw matches on the surface in ATP Tour events. He went 2/6 on the surface last year and has won two from four outings so far in 2020.
