Heracles vs. Venlo – Prediction (Eredivisie – 09.11.2019)

Despite being the first team to lose to relegation favourites Waalwijk this term, Heracles are looking to further extend their current run of three consecutive home victories, each of which has come by a margin of at least two goals. Expect early action, with just one of Heracles’ six home league matches producing a goalless first half. Two-thirds of Heracles’ home goals in all competitions have been scored by Cyriel Dessers (six goals) or Silvester van der Water (four). Both men scored in both halves last time out. The hosts often see large, dramatic scorelines as a matter of course. Significantly, seven of Heracles’ nine Eredivisie matches won or lost this term have been settled by a margin of 2+ goals. Furthermore, home coach Frank Wormuth has won his only prior home H2H with Venlo 4-1.

Expectations of a resounding scoreline are underlined yet further, by the fact that Venlo have lost each of their last five league matches by a margin of 3+ goals. They have also lost at both HT/FT in five of their last six league games within that category. Jonathan Opoku has scored two of Venlo’s last three away goals in all competitions, and both strikes arrived after half-time. Away from home, Venlo seem to capitulate after the interval. Tellingly, 60% of their conceded away goals have come beyond the 60th minute, whilst a third of those goals arrived in the 76th minute or later. Furthermore, they have never recovered a point after trailing to-nil at the break of an Eredivisie away game (L3).
