The last and only time he bageled an opponent on the main tour this year was in Marseille (6-4 6-0 against Daniil Medvedev), which was also his previous outing on indoor hardcourt. This win could probably get the Frenchman’s season going as he has been struggling for form, fitness, and confidence, especially since the restart. He gained some momentum during the tour suspension by winning two legs of FFT Elite Challenge but has lost eight of his ten matches since resuming his season in Cincinnati Masters. As a result of poor form over the last few months, former world #6 Gilles Simon has exited the top 50 group and is currently sitting at #57 in ATP Tour rankings. Giles Simon has won over 200 matches and six ATP Tour titles on indoor hardcourt so far in his reasonably successful career. In fact, his best result of the 2020 season came on the indoor hardcourts in Marseille, where he reached the semifinal.

Second seed Roberto Bautista Agut has competed in four tournaments since the tour resumption, and he managed to win at least two matches in each of them — semifinalist in Cincinnati Masters, quarterfinalist in ATP Hamburg, and third round in the US Open and French Open. After losing to Pablo Carreno Busta in the second round of ATP Rotterdam (IH) earlier this year, the Spaniard played a couple of matches on indoor hardcourts in Germany during the tour suspension and lost both of them against Jannik Sinner and Mischa Zverev in straight sets.
