Borna Coric enters ATP St.Petersburg after suffering disappointing defeats against the world #70 Stefano Travaglia in the second round of Rome Masters and #104 Norbert Gombos in the first round of the French Open. The top-ranked Croatian, who is struggling for fitness and form over the last 20 months or so, made a terrible start to 2020 by losing five of his opening six matches and again went through a three-match losing streak in exhibition events during the break. Seventh seed Borna Coric’s debut ATP St.Petersburg campaign in 2017 ended in the first round against Jan Lennard Struff, but he did well here in 2019 by finishing as the runner-up to the in-form Daniil Medvedev.

The 39-year-old Feliciano Lopez is nowhere near his best in recent years, but he’s still finding a way to post some notable results on the main tour, such as winning the title in London last year and reaching the quarterfinal in Auckland this January and Kitzbuhel last month. Former world #12 Feliciano Lopez’s only previous appearance in St.Petersburg came way back in 2002 when he lost to the former world #6 Karol Kucera in three sets in the first round.
