Dominic Thiem vs. Diego Schwartzman – Prediction (ATP Vienna Final – 27.10.2019)

Preview and players comparison.

Dominic Thiem leads the H2H series against his good friend Diego Schwartzman by 4-2, but in 2019, it’s tied at 1-1. Superior ability and playing at home make Thiem the deserved favorite here, but Diego Schwartzman has also produced solid tennis in recent months, and expect him to have equal chances in this battle.

Top seed Dominic Thiem needed a comeback effort against the London aspirant Matteo Berrettini to reach the final of ATP Vienna, 3-6 7-5 6-3. It was a solid result for the Austrian considering the motivated Berrettini has got a lot to play for, and he also defeated Thiem in the quarterfinal of Shanghai Masters a few weeks ago. This is world #4 Dominic Thiem’s best result in his home event of ATP Vienna in ten appearances. His previous best result in this tournament was progressing to the quarterfinal on two occasions in 2013 and 2018.

The top-ranked Austrian ended his disappointment and lifted his first ATP Tour title in front of the home fans in Kitzbuhel (C) a few months ago, where he defeated the Italian Lorenzo Sonego in the semifinal and Albert Ramos Vinolas in the championship match. Dominic Thiem has already lifted four ATP Tour titles so far in 2019 and has got a solid 4-1 record in the championship matches this year with that sole defeat coming against Rafael Nadal in French Open. Notably, Thiem has never won more than four titles in a season so far in his career. Winning the biggest title of his career in Indian Wells earlier this year and posting some improved results on tour in the second half of the season has helped Dominic Thiem qualify for the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals for the fourth consecutive season.

Diego Schwartzman made the most of Gael Monfils’ recent fitness struggles to deliver a straight-set win in the semifinal of ATP Vienna, 6-3 6-2. He was winless in three matches before entering Vienna this week but has dropped only one set so far in this campaign — against Sam Querrey in the second round. World #15 Diego Schwartzman, who has won 19 titles at all levels so far in his career, lifted his first-ever title on outdoor hardcourt in Los Cabos a few months ago, and he will now look to grab his first indoor hardcourt title. Despite minimal experience on indoor hardcourt, Diego Schwartzman has already played two championship matches on the surface but couldn’t win a set on both occasions — lost to Richard Gasquet and Jo Wilfried Tsonga in the title-deciding matches in Antwerp 2016 and 2017, respectively.
