Diego Schwartzman vs. Daniil Medvedev – Prediction – ATP Paris (France) 6.11.2020

H2H: Diego Schwartzman v Daniil Medvedev – comparison.

Daniil Medvedev is by far the better player on indoor hard courts and also holds a dominant 3-0 lead in the H2H series (1-0 on IH), which makes him the favorite in this quarterfinal clash. That said, Diego Schwartzman has delivered better performance in recent months, and it wouldn’t be a big surprise if he manages to get his first win in this matchup on Friday.

Diego Schwartzman further boosted his chances of qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals with a flawless performance against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the round of 16 in Paris Masters, 6-1 6-1. He is yet to drop a set this week as he began his campaign by defeating Richard Gasquet in straight sets in the second round (R1 bye), 7-5 6-3. The top-ranked Argentinian scored a terrific comeback win over the talented Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the quarterfinal of the second leg of ATP Cologne last month, where he defeated Felix Auger Aliassime in the following match before finishing as the runner-up to Alexander Zverev.

This is Diego Schwartzman’s best result in Paris Masters in four appearances as his previous best was reaching the round of 16 in 2018 when he failed cheaply against Alexander Zverev. Diego Schwartzman struggled for form and confidence for a few weeks after the tour resumption but found his range and delivered consistent results in his recent outings by finishing as the runner-up in Rome Masters and ATP Cologne and reaching the semifinals in the French Open.

World #9 Diego Schwartzman has competed in only 13 indoor hard court tournaments and bagged only 22 wins on the surface so far in his career. However, he has managed to reach at least the semifinal in five of those events, including in his recent indoor event in Cologne a few weeks ago. Daniil Medvedev squandered a break lead and lost the first set but made sure it did not cost him the win by dominating the following two sets against Alex de Minaur on Thursday, 5-7 6-2 6-2.

The Russian #1 Daniil Medvedev scored a similar comeback win over Vasek Pospisil in the round of 16 in Vienna last week, where he suffered an upset at the hands of former world #5 Kevin Anderson in the quarterfinal. Despite posting sensational results in the second half of his career-best season in 2019, Daniil Medvedev finished the year in a poor fashion by losing four consecutive matches — opening-round exit in Paris Masters and lost three matches in a row in the ATP Tour Finals. The Russian would be hoping to make amends by progressing deep in Paris and London this time around; however, it won’t be easy as his form in recent weeks hasn’t been good enough.
