Daniil Medvedev vs. Alexander Zverev – Prediction – ATP London (UK) 16.11.2020

H2H: Daniil Medvedev v Alexander Zverev – comparison.

Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev will face each other for the second time in the space of two weeks and for the second consecutive season in the ATP Tour Finals. Both of these players have got decent momentum on their side and will fancy their chances of going all the way in London this week. The top-ranked German defeated the Russian in straight sets in the group stages of ATP Tour Finals last year, but Daniil Medvedev fought back from a set down and prevailed in three sets in the finals of Paris Masters earlier this month.

World #4 Daniil Medvedev had a disastrous debut campaign in ATP Tour Finals last year and would be hoping to make amends by doing well this week. The Russian was the top-performer on the main tour in the second half of the 2019 season but having played two many tough and grueling matches in that period mean he ran out of gas by November and failed to win a match in Paris Masters and ATP Tour Finals (0-3). Unlike in 2019, Daniil Medvedev seems to have hit the form right in time for the year-end championships this year. He went through a three-match losing streak between the US Open and French Open and later suffered an early exit during his title-defense campaign in St.Petersburg but found his range in recent weeks by reaching the quarterfinal in Vienna and winning the biggest title of his career in Paris Masters.

While Daniil Medvedev is seeking his first win in the ATP Tour Finals, Alexander Zverev lifted the biggest title of his career here in 2018 — defeated Roger Federer in the semifinal and Novak Djokovic in the finals — and reached the semifinal recently in 2019. Alexander Zverev heads into this clash with a perfect 3-0 record in his opening matches in ATP Tour Finals, having beaten Marin Cilic twice in 2017 and 2018 and Rafael Nadal in 2019.

World #7 Alexander Zverev is dealing with some personal problems over the last few weeks, but it doesn’t seem to have affected his performance on the court as he bagged consecutive titles in the first and second leg of ATP Cologne and had his chances against Daniil Medvedev in the championship match in Paris Masters. The German holds a dominant 5-2 lead in the H2H series, and five of the pair’s previous seven meetings have concluded in straight sets. Regardless of the lop-sided H2H, expect this to be a close contest with both players having equal chances, considering their ability and form coming into this week.
