Jannik Sinner continued his good run of form on the main tour by making his way to the semifinal in the second leg of ATP Cologne last week, where he had his chances against the eventual champion Alexander Zverev (in SF). The talented Italian resumed his season with disappointing defeats against the likes of Salvatore Caruso in Cincinnati Masters and Laslo Djere in Kitzbuhel. However, he seems to have found his range in recent weeks and gained a lot of confidence by winning at least two matches in each of his last three tournaments, which also includes a run to the quarterfinal at the French Open — his career-best result in slams.

Making his ATP Vienna debut during a hugely successful 2019 season, Jannik Sinner defeated the experienced Philipp Kohlschreiber in the first round but was stopped by Gael Monfils in two close sets in the second round. The Italian teenager won an impressive 65 matches at all levels during his breakthrough season in 2019, and 31 of those wins came on indoor hard courts. He even went through an 11-match winning streak on the surface and lifted the maiden Challenger title of his career on the indoor hard courts in Bergamo (Feb 2019).

Casper Ruud’s excellent run on the main tour came to an end at the hands of Yannick Hanfmann in the first round of the inaugural edition of ATP Sardinia a few weeks ago, 2-6 1-6. Prior to that, he made consecutive semifinal appearances in Rome Masters and Hamburg and won two main draw matches in the French Open. The Norwegian youngster has impressed on the main tour this year, winning the maiden ATP Tour title of his career in Buenos Aires and reaching as high as #25 in the ATP Tour rankings. However, this will be a completely new challenge for him as he is yet to play a match on indoor hard courts this year and has never played a match in Vienna.
