Casper Ruud vs. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina – Prediction (ATP Milan – 06.11.2019)

Preview and players comparison.

Experience on the main tour certainly gives an advantage for Casper Ruud, but Alejandro Davidovich Fokina — the only winner of a Junior slam among all eight contestants in Milan — is very much capable of winning this matchup.

All eight players have played a match in this edition of Next Gen Finals, and Casper Ruud remains the only player yet to win a set as he was beaten convincingly in straight sets by Miomir Kecmanovic on Tuesday, 3-4 3-4 2-4. The 20-year-old Norwegian hasn’t got a great record on non-clay surfaces, and his successful qualification for Milan was contributed by some strong runs on clay such as the runner-up finish in Houston and semifinal appearances in Sao Paulo and Kitzbuhel. Casper Ruud posted his career-best result on indoor hardcourts in St.Petersburg a few weeks ago, where he defeated Alexander Bublik and Salvatore Caruso before taking a set off Borna Coric in the quarterfinal.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who replaced Denis Shapovalov in Milan this week, put in a decent performance on his ATP Next Gen Finals debut, but it could earn him only a set against the world #18 and last year’s runner-up Alex de Minaur, 2-4 4-3 1-4 1-4. The only other Spaniard to compete in this tournament was Jaume Munar Clar in 2018 when he started the campaign with a four-set defeat against the top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and went onto reach the semifinal. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has won 50 matches and two Challenger titles so far in 2019, but he is yet to win a match on indoor hardcourt since defeating Gregoire Jacq in an ITF event in February 2018.
