Ashleigh Barty vs. Belinda Bencic – Prediction (WTA – 27.10.2019)

Preview and players comparison.

Barty played the year-end championships in doubles in 2017-18, going as far as the semifinals last year. Bencic, who has now matched her career-best ranking of 7 (Feb 2016), has never been amply successful in China. She is 7-9 in completed main draw matches in this country, 0-5 against top 30 players.

Bencic has defeated Osaka thrice this season to consolidate her career record against top-ranked players to 4-1; the other win came against S. Williams in 2015 Toronto. Barty, who is making her singles WTA Finals debut, has gone 8-5 against top 10 players this year, accounting for nearly half of the overall losses.

Ashleigh Barty received a new Porsche car after finishing in the pole position of the Race to Shenzhen. The reigning Roland Garros champion is the deserved world no. 1. She has won multiple matches in twelve out of fourteen outings this season and lifted titles on all surfaces, having also won Miami and Birmingham. Barty currently holds the second place for the most wins in 2019, two behind Kiki Bertens (54). In the last leg of the season, the Aussie has posted a semifinal in Wuhan and runner-up finish in Beijing. The latter was her third career final appearance in China, following 2017 Wuhan (F) and 2018 WTA Elite Trophy (W).

Belinda Bencic became the last to qualify for Shenzhen after defeating Kristina Mladenovic in the semifinal of Moscow a little more than a week ago, edging Kiki Bertens in the Race. She went on to win her fourth career title at the Russian capital, beating former champion Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova from a set deficit. Bencic, who was playing $80k-level ITF tournaments this time last year, ended her three-and-a-half-year long WTA title drought in Dubai in February. On her journey to a debut WTA Finals qualification, the Swiss received an equally significant boost via the semifinal showing in the US Open, her best major result.
