Anastasija Sevastova (Latvia) vs. Kristina Mladenovic (Fra) – Result prediction (17.10.2019)

Preview and players comparison.

Mladenovic, who is already through the semifinals in doubles, did not win a set in either of her previous (clay-court) meetings with Sevastova, losing at 2010 Strasbourg — when she was a 17-year-old — and 2018 Rome (via ret). The Frenchwoman has an even chance to take out the sixth seed this time around.

Anastasija Sevastova registers her first win since the US Open on Monday, beating Aliaksandra Sasnovich, 6-1, 7-5. Last month in China, she led the first-round matches in Wuhan and Beijing by a set, eventually losing them to McHale and Svitolina. The Latvian was defending runner-up points at the Chinese capital. Sevastova is also defending a handful of points in Moscow. A quarterfinalist in her debut 2015 appearance, the 29-year-old went one step further last year, recording three three-set wins en route. She bids to end the season with a fifth quarterfinal showing, third in a Premier-level event after Brisbane and Stuttgart.

In their second meeting on Russian soil, Kristina Mladenovic defeated Moscow-born Yulia Putintseva in three sets, just as she did in the final of 2017 St. Petersburg for her only WTA title. She won 80% of her first-serve points (41/51) and dropped just a couple of service games in two hours to win 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Mladenovic hopes to break the round-of-16 curse at Kremlin Cup. She has played at this stage in all her previous five appearances as well, failing every time. Four of those losses were in straight sets. The former world no. 10 bids her 30th win of the season (29-26) and eighth against a top 30 opponent (7-12).
