Alex de Minaur vs. Jannik Sinner – Prediction (ATP Milan – 09.11.2019)

Preview and players comparison.

Though Alex de Minaur is relatively more experienced at this stage of ATP events, Jannik Sinner has got massive potential and is expected to fight for major honors in the future. This fascinating battle between two young prospects could go either way as both are equally capable of beating each other.

Jannik Sinner fought back from a set down against Miomir Kecmanovic on Friday to set up a dream Next Gen final against Alex de Minaur, 2-4 4-1 4-2 4-2. It was Sinner’s second comeback win of the campaign as he needed a similar effort against Frances Tiafoe in his first round-robin match, 3-4 4-2 4-2 4-2. The Italian teenager has played only a handful of matches at the top level but has already earned a lot of admirers all around the world, especially in Italy. “I think the crowd gives you a kind of energy, which is very important for a player. Today, I was a little bit more nervous because it’s a semi-final.

“Tomorrow, I will, of course, be a little bit nervous, which is normal,” said Sinner. Jannik Sinner, who was predominantly competing on the ITF circuits less than 12 months ago, will play the biggest match of his young career on Saturday. Sinner has gone 4-2 in the Championship matches (at all levels) in his career with the recent such match ending in a three-set win against the Australian Alex Bolt in Lexington Challenger a few months ago. With this run, wildcard Jannik Sinner becomes the first Italian to reach an ATP Finals on home soil since Filippo Volandro defeated Nicolas Lapentti in three sets in Palermo way back in 2006. While Jannik Sinner has won a whopping 25 matches and two titles on indoor hardcourt so far in 2019, top seed Alex de Minaur could win only ten matches in these 11 months with four of those wins coming in Milan this week.

Alex de Minaur is a win away from becoming the third undefeated champion of ATP Next Gen Finals in its three-year history. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Hyeon Chung won all their three round-robin matches in 2018 and 2017, respectively, and went onto score a four-set comeback win in the championship match. The top-ranked Australian becomes the first player to play more than one championship match in Milan. Last year as well, he reached the finals without losing a match but couldn’t beat the in-form Stefanos Tsitsipas in the title-decider. Since losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas in Milan last year, Alex de Minaur has played four championship matches on the main tour and managed to win three of them with that sole loss coming against Roger Federer on the indoor hardcourt of ATP Basel last month.
