Whilst a 1-0 defeat in their last Eredivisie match ended Ajax’s winning start to the season, it did continue a trend which has seen the team that scored first go on to take all three points in Ajax’s last 14 Eredivisie matches. However, it also means that the last nine top-flight games that Ajax have failed to score in, they lost. The good news for the hosts is that they are overwhelming favourites here, and are unbeaten in the last 12 competitive home H2Hs, a period in which Ajax netted an average of 3.83 goals per meeting (W10, D2). Considering they’ve led at HT and scored in both halves in their opening two home games this season, those short odds look justified.

Heerenveen Insights.

Heerenveen have an uphill battle ahead if they want to keep their unbeaten start to the season going (W3, D1), a start that has seen them score a first-half opener in all four games, lead at HT in three, and concede an equaliser just once. Yet considering they’re unbeaten in 50% of the Eredivisie fixtures they’ve started as an outsider since the start of last season (W3, D3, L6), an upset isn’t beyond the realms of possibility. In fact, they’ve netted in 12 consecutive Eredivisie away games – a run that started at this venue back in September 2019. It’s perhaps unsurprising then that the entertaining visitors have seen all six of their away league games in 2020 feature both teams score and the opener netted by the 15th minute.
