Yuichi Sugita (Jap) vs. Stefano Travaglia (Ita) – Result prediction (17.10.2019)

Preview and players comparison.

They met once in the qualifying stages of ATP Sydney in 2015 when Stefano Travaglia prevailed in straight sets. Having delivered better results so far in 2019 makes the Italian the slight favorite here, but there isn’t much between these two and expect both players to have a fair chance in this evenly poised second round encounter.

Lucky loser Yuichi Sugita is through to the second round of ATP Stockholm after defeating the home-crowd favorite Elias Ymer in straight sets on Tuesday, 7-6 6-2. Earlier in this campaign, he defeated Enzo Couacaud in straight sets but lost to Alexei Popyrin in the final qualifying round, despite winning the first set 6-1. With this win against Elias Ymer, the Japanese registered his first main draw win on the main tour since ATP Antaya 2018, and he will now look to register back-to-back main draw wins at this level for the first time since ATP Halle 2018.

This is a much-needed result for Yuichi Sugita considering his recent struggles. After failing to end his nightmare run on the main tour and eventually dropping out of top 200 in the rankings, Yuichi Sugita competed on the Challenger circuits in these ten months and posted some encouraging results such as winning the title at Yokkaichi challenger and Binghampton Challenger. Yuichi Sugita, who returned to compete on the Challenger circuits in the final few weeks of the 2018 season, made it to the quarterfinal of ATP Stockholm during his recent appearance in 2017, defeating Denis Istomin and Marcos Baghdatis.

Stefano Travaglia produced his best performance of the season on the main tour to edge past fellow big-server Reilly Opelka in the first round of ATP Stockholm. He won nearly 95% of his first-serve points and managed to break the American’s serve twice in the match, 7-5 4-6 6-4. World #83 Stefano Travaglia is now a win away from making his second quarterfinal appearance on the main tour. He made his quarterfinal debut in Umag a few months ago, where he defeated fellow Italians Thomas Fabbiano and Fabio Fognini before losing to Dusan Lajovic (in the QF).
