Villarreal vs. Alaves – Prediction (25.10.2019)

Preview and Teams Comparison.

Villarreal have lost five of their last six LaLiga games against Alaves (W1 D0 L5), one defeat more than in their previous 10 matches against them in the top-flight (W5 D1 L4). The last five H2H meetings have seen three total goals each, with both teams on the scoresheet in four of those five. This season alone, Alavés have won just one of six LL matches entered as an outsider (W1, D1, L4). The home side on the day has failed to register a first-half goal in the last four H2H meetings. Alaves have won 56.2% of their matches against Villarreal in LaLiga (9/16), their second-highest win percentage against sides they have faced at least 10 time in the competition (58.3% vs Las Palmas).

Villarreal have collected 14 or fewer La Liga (LL) points in the first nine weeks on just four occasions this decade. Nonetheless, they remain amongst a dwindling handful of clubs undefeated at home (W2, D2), and when classed as the bookmakers’ favourite (W3, D2) this term. Carlos Bacca (VIL) is the only player from either side to have scored in two of the last four H2H meetings. With just the single clean sheet at home in LL this season, Villarreal are grateful to have plundered two or more goals in all four home matches to date. Their total of 13 scored within that sequence includes four opening goals, which have done much to protect the aforementioned home record.

They will need more of the same to snap some poor form against Deportivo Alavés, who have won five of their last six meetings with Villarreal (W5, L1), including the last three. However, they are currently winless on the road (D1, L3), having played at four clubs that lay in the top half of the table after nine matches. Mubarak Wakaso (ALA), meanwhile, has been booked in six of his last seven LL appearances. Alavés have conceded the opening goal of the game on all four occasions in the above group of games, as well as bearing the burden of a half-time deficit in their last three LL road trips. That is thanks in part to a league-low six shots (and 1.5 on target) per-LL away game.
