Union Berlin vs. Hertha Berlin – Prediction (Bundesliga – 02.11.2019)

Preview and Teams Comparison.

This is the first Berlin derby in the Bundesliga since 1976/77. Back then Hertha faced Tennis Borussia, with both sides winning their respective home games 2-0.

Saturday’s historic first-ever top-flight meeting of Union Berlin and Hertha Berlin has also been billed as the first-ever Berlin Bundesliga clash of East and West, in reference to the city’s divided past. East Berlin side Union are struggling in their inaugural Bundesliga season (W2, D1, L6) and are finding goals hard to come by: their nine goals scored is the division’s joint-lowest and they’ve only netted two or more league goals on two occasions this season. All three of Marius Butlers’ Bundesliga goals this term have come in Union’s two wins. Union also have a tendency to concede first (7/9 games), meaning they’ve been ahead at the break just once this season, albeit that was at home. However, if they can get to the 76th minute relatively unscathed, then Hertha could be in trouble as no team has yet breached Union’s defensive ‘Iron Curtain’ in the final 15+ minute period, whilst scoring four times themselves.

All four H2H matches have taken place in the second tier and featured both teams scoring, albeit the last game was over six years ago. No side has seen more games this season produce over 2.5 goals than Hertha (eight). Three of those four H2Hs saw a 1-0 half-time score. Only two Union league games this season saw both teams score in the first half.

What’s more, Hertha themselves have a negative goal difference of -3 from the 76th minute till the final whistle. Yet the result could be determined by half-time anyway, with each of Hertha’s seven games this season to produce a winner (W3, D2, L4), seeing the half-time result match the full-time one. Javairô Dilrosun has scored a goal in each of Hertha’s three wins campaign. Also don’t be surprised to see a half-time score, either way, of 1-0 as six of Hertha’s Bundesliga games have featured that scenario. Four of those six saw the goal arrive before the 24th minute.
