H2H: Tottenham vs. Sheffield Utd – Prediction (Premier League

Tottenham are unbeaten in four home games against Sheffield United in all competitions (W3 D1) since a 0-1 loss at White Hart Lane in November 1991.

Midweek action saw Tottenham pick up just their second win in seven competitive matches (W2, D2, L3). Despite their underwhelming run of form in that sequence, they did average two goals per game. Their defence is improving too, having conceded an average of just 0.8 goals per game across their previous five competitive matches. Spurs attacker Heung-Min Son has four goals in his previous four competitive matches, with the goals coming in pairs. In the Premier League (PL), Spurs have tended to be quick out of the blocks, scoring 64.71% of their league goals inside the opening 45 minutes, taking the lead in eight of their 11 PL fixtures to date. Their issue, however, has been in holding onto those leads, conceding an equaliser on five of those occasions.

Premier League newcomers Sheffield United are still undefeated on the road this term. The key to their success is to remain defensively assured early on, before pushing for goals later in the game. This explains why they have scored 83.33% of their away league goals in the second half. Sheffield United’s new signing Lys Mousset has three goals in his previous six PL matches. Two came away from home, and in the second half. Although the ‘Blades’ do the bulk of their scoring in the second half, they do complement this by being fairly robust defensively in the opening stages of their PL fixtures. Significantly, they haven’t conceded a goal in the opening 15 minutes of any PL game so far this term.
