In fact, he couldn’t even win a set in any of those matches. Former world #16 Nikoloz Basilashvili has been dealing with some personal problems all these months, and it has certainly impacted his performance on the court. Fortunately for him, the tour was suspended for a few months, and some temporary changes were made to the ranking system, which still keeps him at #39 in the ATP Tour rankings. The top-ranked Georgian made it to the semifinal of ATP Sofia during his debut campaign in 2017 but lost out to Daniel Brands in two close sets in the first round of his recent appearance in 2019.

Stefano Travaglia has had his own problems in recent weeks as he suffered an injury during a grueling three-setter against compatriot Andrea Pellegrino in the first round of ATP Sardinia last month and has struggled to win matches since then. The big-serving Italian made his debut in Sofia last year and scored two solid three-set wins over James Ward and Egor Gerasimov in the qualifying stages but couldn’t get past Jan Lennard Struff in the first round.
