Southampton are in trouble having won just two of their previous 11 Premier League (PL) matches (W2, D2, L7), with their biggest issue during that run a failure to keep one single clean sheet. They have also conceded an average of 2.64 goals per-game in that sequence, giving them statistically the worst defence in the PL. Whilst the Saints’ defence has struggled, their attack has at least performed at an admirable level. They have failed to score in just two of their 16 PL matches so far, while averaging a decent 1.45 goals per-game. Additionally, they have scored exactly two goals in three of their previous four matches.

Fellow strugglers West Ham United have managed just one win in ten PL games (W1, D2, L7), conceding 2+ goals in all but two games over that time. On top of their litany of failures, West Ham are yet to lead at half-time in any away PL game this term. The good news for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, however, is that they have won four of their previous five H2H PL matches vs their opponents. Furthermore, they scored two or more goals in all of those matches.

Players to watch: Danny Ings is in blistering form having netted ten goals in 11 competitive appearances for Southampton. Meanwhile, Angelo Ogbonna has two goals in his previous four PL games. Both goals originated from corner kicks.

Stat attack: Southampton have yet to score a home PL goal in the opening 15 minutes. Southampton have scored 66.67% of their PL goals after half-time. West Ham have not managed a single PL away goal in the 16th-45th minute period this campaign.
