H2H: Prediction: West Brom vs. Sheffield Wed (Championship

Though unbeaten in six Championship matchups since losing 1-0 at Leeds (W4, D2), West Bromwich Albion (WBA) are still searching for their first trio of successive wins since March. Much of this can be attributed to the fact that WBA have conceded exactly two goals in each of their last five home league matches. Six-goal Matt Phillips (WBA) has scored in two of his last three appearances, and has one career goal against the visitors. Despite scoring first in three of seven home league games thus far, WBA have won just one match here when they’ve scored first (W1, D2). Regardless, they remain the league’s second-highest scorers, with slightly over 1.81 goals per-match on average.

WBA have outscored visiting teams by an average ratio of 3:2 across their last five home matches. As well as drawing their last two home league matches, WBA have drawn three of the last six H2Hs played here (W1, D3, L2). Each of the Owls’ three Championship away wins this term have come by a margin of two or more goals.

Though winless in three straight awaydays (D1, L2), visitors Sheffield Wednesday have only failed to score in two league trips this season, and have scored over 1.5 away goals in three away fixtures. A strong start is expected from them, as the ‘Owls’ have led at the break in seven (W5, D1, L1) of their 16 league matches. Veteran striker Steven Fletcher (SHW) has won just one H2H (W1, D2, L5) but has three career goals against WBA. Expectations of a strong start from Sheffield Wednesday are underlined further still by the fact that they have scored first in ten (W7, D1, L2) of their Championship matches so far. Oddly in that context, each of the Owls’ last three league goals have arrived beyond the 80th minute.
