Novak Djokovic vs. Roger Federer – Prediction (ATP London – 14.11.2019)

Djokovic (Srb) – Federer (Sui). Preview and players comparison.

Novak Djokovic is one of the very few players to have a positive H2H record against Roger Federer (27-22, including exhibitions), and notably, he is currently on a five-match winning streak in this matchup. The Serbian is superior to Federer in every aspect of the game at the moment, and he heads into this clash as the favorite, despite playing on the Swiss’ favorite surface.

World #2 Novak Djokovic and #3 Roger Federer will face each other in a highly anticipated round-robin clash in London this Thursday. The magnitude and importance of this match get bigger when you consider what happened in their previous meeting at Wimbledon and what’s on offer here — a place in the semifinal of ATP World Tour Finals. Novak Djokovic played a big part in derailing Roger Federer’s 2019 season as the Serbian handed the Swiss arguably the toughest and heartbreaking defeat of his career in the Championship match in Wimbledon a few months ago. Federer dominated all five sets and had two consecutive match points in the deciding set but ended up losing 13-12 (ND won 7-6 1-6 7-6 4-6 13-12).

“I think it’s all flushed away from my side. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since then [Wimbledon finals]. I wasn’t hoping [for] him not to be in my section or in my draw. I didn’t hope I was never going to play him again. Actually, it’s good for me to play him again, and maybe that all helps to get a chance to get him back or whatever it is. But at the end of the day, I’m here for the [Nitto ATP] Finals and not because of the Wimbledon finals,” said Roger Federer.

Roger Federer bounced back from a disappointing straight-set defeat against Dominic Thiem earlier this week with a comfortable straight-set win over the ATP World Tour Finals debutant Matteo Berrettini in his second round-robin match, 7-6 6-3. Former world #1 Roger Federer is a six-time champion of ATP World Tour Finals, and the last and only time he failed in the group stage of this tournament was back in 2008 when he lost his first and third round-robin match to Gilles Simon and Andy Murray, respectively. Novak Djokovic is also the main reason why Roger Federer is winless in London for nearly ten years. Since winning the year-end championships for the record sixth time in 2011, the Swiss has played three finals here and lost all those matches (one walkover) to none other than Novak Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic’s chances of finishing the season as the year-end #1 took a huge blow as he suffered a three-set defeat against Dominic Thiem on Tuesday. Nevertheless, it was a solid performance from the Serbian, and only an extraordinary performance from Thiem denied him the win.Last year’s runner-up in London, Novak Djokovic is bidding to win his sixth ATP World Tour Finals title this week and the last and only time he lost more than one match in a single edition of the year-end championships was back in 2011.

“I’m still in the tournament. We go head to head with Roger. Winner goes to semis. Loser doesn’t qualify. As simple as that,” said Novak Djokovic.
