H2H: Napoli vs. Genoa – Prediction (Serie A

Genoa haven’t won a Serie A (SA) match against Napoli since January 2012 (D4, L10) which is good news for the hosts who are without a competitive win in four games, and have won just one of their last five SA fixtures (W1, D3, L1). Incidentally, this sequence produced the only two games that Napoli have dropped points this league campaign after scoring first (W4, D2). Five of Napoli’s last six SA goals were netted by Arkadiusz Milik. Napoli have scored exactly two goals in four of their five SA home games, while their four conceded goals remains the joint-lowest at home. Furthermore, Napoli have allowed only one SA club to score first against them here, although 75% of the goals they’ve conceded arrived in the final 30 minutes.

Napoli have failed to score a first-half goal in six of the last eight SA H2Hs. Genoa have lost five of the seven SA matches that they started as an outsider this season. All but one of Genoa’s 11 SA games have produced over 2.5 total goals.

The visitors are yet to score first in their five SA road trips, but even scoring first doesn’t guarantee success as Genoa have lost two of the three SA matches in which they did so. That has played a part in Genoa’s poor recent form – four SA away losses in a row and seven in nine league games overall. Genoa’s defence stands as the division’s worst (26 conceded), shipping at least two goals in each of their five SA away matches. A late conceded goal could be on the cards, as 34.62% of the SA goals they’ve conceded arrived after the 75th minute.
