Nadia Podoroska vs. Ekaterina Alexandrova – Prediction – WTA Linz (Austria) 13.11.2020

H2H: Nadia Podoroska v Ekaterina Alexandrova – comparison.

Podoroska has now won 24 matches in her last six tournaments since the resumption, though Linz is her first non-clay-court outing in this timeframe. She has all the momentum to hurt the fourth seed, but Alexandrova remains the clear favorite with her superior skills on indoor hard-courts, which have given her four WTA semifinals.

Ekaterina Alexandrova ends her quarterfinal wait, reaching her first one since February. She rallied from an early break deficit to beat countrywoman Varvara Gracheva, 7-5, 6-1, winning 81% of first-serve points in the 77-minute match. The Russian started the week with a similar win against the 2019 doubles champion Siniakova. Alexandrova has withered away since making a brisk start to the season, which comprised her maiden WTA title win in Shenzhen and a semifinal finish at St. Petersburg. Moreover, the world no. 33 came into Linz with a five-match losing streak against top 100 players, though has now beaten a couple of them in straight sets. This is the perfect tournament for Alexandrova to end the mixed season on an upswing. She has gone deep in her previous two main draw appearances, entering her maiden WTA final in 2018 and finishing runner-up to Camila Giorgi, and reaching the semifinal in 2019 and narrowly losing to Jelena Ostapenko, 1-6, 7-6, 7-5.

Nadia Podoroska will now take on the 2018 runner-up after beating the 2018 champion Giorgi, 6-7, 6-1, 6-4, in two hours and 32 minutes. The Argentinian player is so far doing a fabulous job in backing up her breakout semifinal run at Roland-Garros, starting her Linz debut with a straight-set victory over Irina-Camelia Begu. Before she defeated the likes of Svitolina and Putintseva to become the first-ever qualifier in a Roland-Garros semifinal, Podoroska held just three WTA main draw victories, all coming at different tournaments across 2017 and 2018. An outside top 300 player just last year, the 23-year-old is now the newest top 50 debutante.
