He failed to win a match here during his recent two campaigns in 2017 and 2018 and would be hoping to put up a better show this time around. The talented Swede has enjoyed massive success on the Challenger circuits so far in 2019 but could register only one main draw win in ATP Tour events in these ten months which came in the other Swedish tour event in Bastad where he entered the main draw with a wildcard and defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first round. Despite struggling to make an impact on the main tour so far in his career, Mikael Ymer would be quite confident at the moment as he is currently on a ten-match winning streak with all those ten wins coming on indoor hardcourt — champion in Orleans Challenger and Mouilleron-Le-Captif challenger. During this impressive run, the 21-year-old Swede scored a few confidence-boosting wins against quality opponents such as Jo Wilfried Tsonga, Aljaz Bedene, and Jiri Vesely. Overall, he has played 15 matches on the surface so far in 2019 and managed to win 13 of them.

Joao Sousa returns to ATP Stockholm for the first time since 2014 to make his third appearance in this tournament. His debut campaign here in 2010 ended in the qualifying stages, and the recent visit in 2014 ended in the first round against Marius Copil in three sets. The top-ranked Portuguese’s only previous outing on indoor hardcourts this season came in St.Petersburg last month, where he defeated the likes of Karen Khachanov and Mikhail Kukushkin to reach the semifinal. It was his fourth quarterfinal (or better) appearance on the main tour in the second half of 2019.
