Manchester City vs. Southampton – Prediction (Premier League – 02.11.2019)

Preview and Teams Comparison.

Manchester City have won each of their last five Premier League meetings with Southampton, their longest ever winning run against Saints in league competition.

Overwhelming favourites to win their fifth straight match, Manchester City have also won nine of their last ten competitive home fixtures against Southampton (D1), covering a -1 handicap on six occasions. Additionally, the ‘Sky Blues’ have scored an average of 3.38 goals in their home matches so far this season. Raheem Sterling (MCY) has three goals across the last four H2Hs – he’s scored the opener in five competitive matches this season. When they win, they win big – all of City’s seven PL wins this season have been by at least a two-goal margin. In fact, this is true of their last 14 competitive victories (excluding extra-time/penalties). Indeed, their last ten competitive games have now been decided by a margin of at least two goals (W9, L1).

City have recorded 13 wins in their last 15 home matches, scoring two or more goals on 11 occasions. Southampton have scored precisely one goal in six of their last seven visits to the Etihad. Seven of City’s last ten competitive matches saw just one team score.

Southampton, meanwhile, suffered the ignominy of setting a new record for conceded goals in a PL home match last round as they were trounced 9-0 by Leicester. Following that, they now possess the division’s worst defensive record (2.5 goals conceded per match average), but have kept a clean sheet in four of eight competitive away fixtures this season. Danny Ings has netted three goals across Southampton’s last four PL matches – all arrived within the 30th-60th minute interval. Now winless in five league games (D1, L4), the ‘Saints’ did at least see both teams score in four of those matches. However Southampton conceded the opening goal in four of those five fixtures, and the last goal in all five!
