Lithuania vs. New Zealand – Prediction (Friendly – 17.11.2019)

Preview and Teams Comparison.

Lithuania and New Zealand face off in their respective second matches of this international window after both suffering heavy defeats on the road. Lithuania’s already poor goal difference took a heavy battering in their final Euro 2020 qualifying game, their eighth consecutive away trip without a win (D1, L7). Lithuania’s Arvydas Novikovas has scored in three of his last four Ekstraklasa starts for Legia Warsaw, and as a penalty taker, is a regular scoring threat. They return home, where their recent record has not been a great deal better: since the beginning of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, only Malta have left Lithuania without a draw or a victory, with the hosts failing to win any of their last 11 home games (D2, L9) since.

Lithuania’s last seven goals at home (across 11 fixtures) have all been registered by separate players. New Zealand have not seen a red card awarded in their last 17 fixtures, whilst completing three of their last five games without a player being booked. Lithuania’s last six fixtures have seen five produce over 2.5 total goals (and three over 4.5 total goals), whilst three of New Zealand’s last four games have also seen three or more goals scored.

Lithuania have been poor across both halves, conceding seven half-time deficits in their last nine losses at home. That’s in contrast with their opponents New Zealand, who have lost nine of their last 12 matches in opposition or neutral territory (W2, D1) despite trailing at the break on only three occasions. Twenty-year-old Callum McCowatt scored against Ireland on his international debut, only five weeks after beginning his professional career for Wellington Phoenix. The ‘All Whites’ have not seen a draw in six fixtures, with a four-game Intercontinental Cup in India in June 2018 producing mixed results against very closely ranked nations such as Kenya (L), Chinese Taipei (W) and India (W) themselves.
