Overview.
Going into this round of Euro 2020 qualification (ECQ) fixtures, Latvia are one of only six nations to possess a 100% losing record in the group stage. Only San Marino have conceded more goals, whilst just three countries have scored fewer, so it’s little surprise that Latvia are now winless in 14 games since June 2018. Conceding early has proved costly as in four of Latvia’s last six games they have conceded the opener within 15 minutes. A lack of goals is clearly an issue too, with the hosts failing to score in 12 of their previous 19 home internationals (Baltic Cup excluded). However, five of their previous seven victories did arrive on home soil, with their last three wins coming ‘to nil’.
Poland lead Group G and whilst winning this game wouldn’t confirm qualification, it would officially eliminate Latvia. Jerzy Brzȩczek’s side may top the group but their overall form across their last 21 matches is patchy. They’re winless and goalless in two, and last went three games in a row without a goal in 2017/18. All four of Poland’s group wins arrived with a clean sheet, and their six matches overall have produced an average of only 1.67 goals. They have, however, lost just three of their last 21 away internationals, winning ten of those inside 90 minutes.
