Preview and Teams Comparison.
Israel can ill-afford to drop points in this European Championship qualifier (ECQ) against Latvia if they want to keep their slim qualification hopes alive. Yet Israel face an uphill task after no wins in their last four ECQs (D1, L3), in a run of games that has seen them concede 11 of their 14 goals against in the last four games. What’s more, the hosts are slow starters with only four of their 12 ECQ goals coming before half-time, while four of their games saw a goalless first half. Israel have also seen the half-time result match the full-time one in six of their seven qualifiers.
That’s also been the case with six of Latvia’s seven ECQ fixtures (L7), with the visitors trailing at the break in six of those. The last six of those fixtures actually saw Latvia fail to score, while all seven defeats came despite a -1 handicap ‘headstart’. Latvia’s last ECQ victory came way back in October 2011 – 18 fixtures ago (D5, L13), with two-thirds of the matches during that sequence also seeing Latvia fail to score. However, they have scored in four of their last six ECQ road trips overall, including netting their only Group G goal in their first away game this campaign.
