Fabio Fognini still has a realistic chance of qualifying for the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals for the first time in his career, and he seems to be motivated at the moment. The mercurial Italian has reached the quarterfinal in all his previous five ATP Tour events — quarterfinal in Shanghai Masters, Beijing, Montreal Masters, Los Cabos, and Hamburg. World #12 Fabio Fognini has got a mediocre 36/45 (W/L) record on indoor hardcourt (in career), but he has done exceptionally well here in Stockholm, having reached the semifinal during his previous two visits in 2017 and 2018.
Janko Tipsarevic defeated the relatively inexperienced Corentin Moutet in straight sets to move to the second round of ATP Stockholm for the second time in his career. He previously made to this stage once in 2004 but failed against Olivier Rochus in straight sets. Every win will be precious for the Serbian at this stage of his career as he will be retiring from professional tennis at the end of 2019 season. After sitting out of the entire 2018 season due to injury, former world #8 Janko Tipsarevic returned to competitive action earlier this season and made his first quarterfinal appearance on the main tour since 2017 in Houston, defeating Tennys Sandgren and Cameron Norrie.
