H2H: Espanyol vs Getafe – Prediction (La Liga

Preview and Teams Comparison.

Espanyol are unbeaten in their last four home LaLiga games against Getafe (W3 D1), their best streak against the Azulones in the top flight.

No visiting team has won this H2H clash at any venue in nine consecutive meetings between Espanyol and Getafe (D2, L7), but with Espanyol having lost both of their 2019/20 La Liga (LL) home games when classified as the favourite, Getafe aren’t without a chance of snapping that rut.

The only team in the league yet to collect a point at home (L6), Espanyol are suffering from their worst start to a LL season this decade thanks in part to a defence that has shipped two or more goals in all but one of their six home losses, losing most recently to Valencia despite collecting their maiden first-half goal and half-time lead of their home campaign. Yet to get off the mark this LL campaign, Matías Vargas could be inspired after finding another Europa League goal for Espanyol.

No team has collected more yellow cards in the 2019/20 LL than Getafe (45) after week 13. Referee Pablo González Fuertes’ average of 5.67 yellow cards per LL game is one of the highest of the season. The last ten LL H2H meetings have produced seven 0-0 half-time results, with seven matches all seeing two or fewer goals scored.

Getafe, on the other hand, continue to enjoy their joint-best start to a campaign this decade, and with the half-time result reproduced at the final whistle in just two of their last six league matches, a second-half surprise would be anything but a shock.

The ‘Azulones’ have kept themselves in most away contests with a fairly healthy three of six opening goals, but Getafe have gone on to drop points in two of those three, with recent victory at Celta Vigo their first HT/FT win away from home this league season. Ángel Rodríguez is Getafe’s leading LL goalscorer this season and the club have never lost a competitive game when he’s found the back of the net (W19, D7).
