H2H: Dortmund vs. Wolfsburg – Prediction (Bundesliga

Borussia Dortmund have avoided defeat in each of their last eight Bundesliga meetings with Wolfsburg (W7 D1) – their last loss came away in May 2015 (2-1).

Borussia Dortmund go in search of a much-needed win to help relieve mounting pressure on boss Lucien Favre. Whilst they’ve suffered only one defeat this Bundesliga campaign, they’ve drawn four of their last five top-flight games, and are only three shy of matching their seven league draws from last season. Paco Alcácer and Marco Reus have contributed ten of Dortmund’s 20 league goals this season – eight of those came at home. They can usually be relied upon at home though, losing just two of their last 31 league fixtures at Signal Iduna Park, winning 23 of those games. An entertaining side to watch, seven of Dortmund’s nine Bundesliga clashes this season featured over 3.5 goals, with six witnessing both teams scoring. An open game is more than possible then, especially as 22 of their past 26 home league encounters contained a minimum of three goals.

Dortmund are unbeaten in the last eight H2Hs (W7, D1). Dortmund have scored 65% of their Bundesliga goals during the second half. Wolfsburg have been drawing or losing at half-time in six out of their nine league matches this season.

Wolfsburg are also no stranger to drawing games, having registered a league-high five stalemates after nine rounds. They do possess the only unbeaten record in the Bundesliga though, mostly thanks to their tight defence, which has kept a league-best four clean sheets so far. Wout Weghorst (WOL) has ten goals across his last 13 league appearances – his last four goals were either the game’s first or last. However, an average of just 1.22 goals scored per league fixture – only five teams, all in the bottom six, have a worse average – has been fourth-placed Wolfsburg’s weakness this term. It’s no surprise then that their last seven league games finished with under 2.5 goals.
