Dan Evans vs. Ugo Humbert – Prediction – ATP Antwerp (Belgium) – 24.10.2020

H2H: Dan Evans vs Ugo Humbert – comparison.

Both players have delivered some impressive results on indoor hard courts over the years, with the majority of them coming on the lower-level circuits. However, neither of them has looked entirely convincing with their performance in this campaign as well as since the restart. That said, Dan Evans won this matchup on the indoor hard court in Quimper Challenger (SF) last year, and he is expected to have a slight edge in Antwerp this Saturday.

Some terrible umpiring decisions went in Dan Evans’ way, and he made the most of it to knock out a frustrated Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinal of ATP Antwerp on Friday. The Russian led the match by a set and break at one stage and even held a match point in the second set tiebreaker but completely lost his cool in the deciding set, making it easy for the Brit to close out the match, 3-6 7-6 6-4.
“It is nice to play these guys, and it is why you play the sport, to play the better players. I am pretty clear on how I have to play to beat them, and that is what I do. I try and execute that plan, and I have done that pretty good against the better guys,” said Dan Evans after the win.

Reaching the semifinal in ATP Antwerp on debut appearance is the world #35 Dan Evans’ best result since the restart. He defeated the likes of Andy Murray and Kyle Edmund to win the Battle of Brits during the tour suspension but failed to carry forward the momentum on to the main tour as he could win only two matches from eight outings (before entering ATP Antwerp). Dan Evans made it to this stage of ATP Dubai earlier this year, where he was stopped by the second seed and in-form Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets. However, he’s got a relatively comfortable semifinal opponent in Antwerp and would fancy his chances of reaching the finals at this level for the first time since Delray Beach 2019.

Ugo Humbert overcame a couple of nervy moments in the second set to register a straight-set win over Lloyd Harris, 6-3 7-6. Earlier in this campaign, the left-handed Frenchman got the better of the wildcard entrant Kimmer Coppejans in straight sets and needed a three-set comeback effort against Pablo Carreno Busta. With this run, world #38 Ugo Humbert matched his last year’s ATP Antwerp result. Making his debut here in 2019, he defeated the likes of David Goffin and Guido Pella before losing to the Brit Andy Murray in three sets in the semifinal. Ugo Humbert, who had his breakthrough moment on the main tour in the second half of the 2019 season, recently snapped his three-match losing run in the semifinal of ATP Tour events in Auckland this January, where he defeated John Isner in the semifinal and compatriot Benoit Paire in the championship match.
