Overview.
Following back-to-back league victories, Blackburn Rovers are better off at this stage than in four of their last five Championship seasons. Since defeat in their opening home game, Blackburn have gone 283 minutes of home league football without conceding a goal, yet that sole home defeat did come against another promoted side (Charlton). Three of Blackburn’s four Championship home matches so far featured exactly one goal before half-time, and only one of their last 12 home league matches saw two or more goals before the break. That run of form is not dissimilar to Tony Mowbray’s only prior clash with Luton Town, which saw one first-half goal before a thrilling second half (W 3-2).
Although Graeme Jones’ Luton are sailing within touching distance of the drop zone, their games have provided thrills galore for the neutral, averaging a league-high 3.5 total goals per match. Only one of their eight league matches has produced under 2.5 goals, though only three have seen over 3.5. Yet to draw on the road, Luton’s away games have seen on average of 1.75 goals per first-half. However, don’t bank on the ‘Hatters’ scoring first – they have done so in just two of their 2019/20 league games.
