Bjorn Fratangelo couldn’t really get going in 2020 as he won only 11 matches all year and later had to deal with some fitness problems at the closing stages of the season. His best performance of the year was reaching the quarterfinal in Ann Arbor challenger in January and winning four matches in a row in an exhibition event in the USA during the tour suspension. The 27-year-old Bjorn Fratangelo has competed in ATP Delray Beach five times in the past but is yet to win a main draw match here. Four of his previous five ATP Delray Beach campaigns ended in the qualifying stages and his only ever main draw match in this tournament ended in a three-set defeat at the hands of Yen-Hsun Lu in the first round of the 2017 edition. In fact, the world #99 Bjorn Fratangelo hadn’t tasted the main draw success at this level since 2019 when he defeated the struggling Amir Weintraub 6-0 6-0 in the first round of ATP Winston Salem.

Kevin King dropped only 11 games in his two qualifying matches against Benjamin Lock and Goncalo Oliveira to move into the main draw of ATP Delray Beach on debut appearance, 6-2 6-3 and 6-3 6-3, respectively. The 29-year-old American won plenty of matches in exhibition events in the USA during the tour suspension last year, but he couldn’t carry the momentum onto the tour as he competed in two Challenger events after the restart and failed to clear the first-round hurdle on both occasions.
