H2H: Birmingham v Wycombe – Comparison.

Gary Gardner has featured with a goal in consecutive games following Birmingham’s three-game scoreless run, each crucial in victory. David Wheeler wrote his name in the history books at the weekend as his first goal of the season gave Wycombe a historic Championship victory. Wycombe have failed to score in nine of their last 12 regular season away league games (W1, D1, L10), eight of those defeats saw them concede 2+ goals.

Aitor Karanka guided his Birmingham side to back-to-back victories for the first time under his reign last time out (W3, D4, L3) and they’re expected to make it three in a row here. However, Birmingham have won just seven of the last 20 league games that they started as a favourite (W7, D7, L6). In typical Karanka fashion, goals come at a premium though, with seven of Birmingham’s nine Championship games featuring under 2.5 goals. Despite that, the ‘Blues’ boast an impressive unbeaten record across their last 13 league meetings with newly-promoted opposition (W8, D5), never failing to score. Nine of those games saw both teams score, though they did draw four of the seven home games across that sequence (W3).

Wycombe Insights.

Wycombe Wanderers picked up their first ever Championship win last time out, a hard-fought 1-0 victory over relegation rivals Sheffield Wednesday. They remain the league’s lowest scorers though, averaging just 0.44 goals per game, and they’ve only scored once after HT, although they’ve rarely trailed at the break (HT: W2, D5, L2). Interestingly, visiting manager Gareth Ainsworth won his only prior meeting with Birmingham 1-0 in 2008/09, which was also the score Wycombe won by in their first visit here back in 1994. However, Wycombe are still hunting their first ever Championship away points, having lost all four road trips, despite the last three being level at HT.
