Overview.
With just three qualifiers remaining (ECQ), both Belarus (FIFA rank: #82) and Estonia (#102) now look without hope. None of Belarus’ three ECQ goals were scored at home, and they’re now 317 minutes of home football without a goal in all competitions. Moreover, the hosts also failed to score in their last home game vs a sub-100 ranked nation (0-0 vs Moldova: #172). Belarus have picked up just four of their 14 ECQ points across the last two campaigns at home, though they have shipped only nine of their 24 conceded goals during that time on home soil. Notably, seven of those nine conceded home goals arrived after half-time.
Visiting coach Karel Voolaid lost the only prior meeting of the managers last September, during his first game in charge of Estonia (2-1). Voolaid’s side have conceded six goals across his two games in charge, five of which came after half-time. Following an 8-0 rout by Germany in their last ECQ away game, just four of the 55 nations taking part in qualifying have conceded more than Estonia’s 18 goals (3.6 per match average). Estonia have failed to score in six of their last seven competitive away games vs higher-ranked opposition – both teams scored in none of these games.
