Aryna Sabalenka vs. Oceane Dodin – Prediction – WTA Linz (Austria) 13.11.2020

H2H: Aryna Sabalenka v Oceane Dodin – comparison.

Suffice to say, Sabalenka will be the hot favorite to beat the French player for the second time in a few months, and consolidate her 4-1 season quarterfinal record. In September, she outlived Dodin, 7-6, 6-4, in the first round of the US Open, winning 33/35 first-serve points, striking 11 aces, and benefitting from 10 Dodin double-faults.

Aryna Sabalenka, the only seed in the top half to clear the first round, is through to the quarterfinal following a 6-0, 6-3 win over Stefanie Voegele. While the scoreline may suggest a comfortable 67-minute affair, the top seed had her moments of frustration as she was made to face nine breakpoints across four games (saved all). Sabalenka has picked up the pace since leaving the US with dismal performances across Lexington and New York. Including Linz, she has now won 11 matches in her last four tournaments, including winning her second title of the season at Ostrava, where she posted an impossible comeback win against Sorribes Tormo en route.

Just as the last time she played in Linz, Oceane Dodin has cruised into the quarterfinals of the Upper Austrian tournament as a qualifier, defeating Lexington finalist Jil Teichmann and two-time Linz quarterfinalist Sorana Cirstea. Following these exploits, the Frenchwoman has now extended her winning streak to nine matches. When she last competed in Linz, Dodin was a qualifier and a new face in the top 100. Her bid for a semifinal was denied by Madison Keys in straight sets. Four years later, the former world no. 46 returns with some undeniably impressive indoor hard-court form, including W25 titles at Macon in February and Reims last month.

An unexpected victory on Friday will give Dodin just her third career WTA semifinal (2-5) after Quebec City in 2016 and Washington, D.C., in 2017. Since her injury and health troubles of 2018, she has competed in tour-level quarterfinals twice, losing them to Sofia Kenin and Elena Rybakina at Lyon and St. Petersburg this year.
