H2H: Arsenal vs. Wolves – Prediction (Premier League

After winning their first six Premier League games against them, Arsenal have won just one of their last four against Wolves in the competition (D2 L1), failing to beat them in either game last term.

Despite possessing the joint-sixth best attack in the league with 15 goals scored (and another five in a 5-5 draw with Liverpool in the cup midweek), the goals have slowed down for Arsenal recently in the Premier League (PL), as they look to get their season back on track here after just one win in their last four PL matches (W1, D2, L1). Arsenal defender Sokratis netted in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Southampton, and scored vs Wolves in the last H2H – both goals came from corners. Whilst the ‘Gunners’ have netted under 1.5 goals in three of their previous four PL fixtures, they do have a habit of scoring early on, with 26.67% of their PL goals arriving inside the opening 15 minutes. They complement that with a rather robust defence as the game draws on, conceding just one league goal after the 60th minute so far.

Arsenal have the highest average corners per PL game at 7.69. Two of Wolves’ last three competitive matches saw a red card. Arsenal have the joint-second highest number of offsides per PL game at 2.4.

It’s still just two PL wins for draw specialists Wolverhampton Wanderers so far (W2, D6, L2). A regular scoreline for them this term has been 1-1, with 50% of their PL matches finishing that way. Notably, one area they will be hoping to fix is taking control of games early on – their opponents have scored first in 70% of their league fixtures so far. Raúl Jiménez boasts two goals in his previous three competitive appearances for Wolves – both came between the 60th and 65th minute. Additionally, the visitors don’t have a great historical PL H2H record against Arsenal, losing seven of the previous ten meetings (W1, D2, L7). However, they have lost only one of the previous four. Strikingly, eight of the 11 goals scored across those four meetings came in the first half.
