Andrea Petkovic (Ger) vs. Julia Goerges (Ger) – Score prediction (9.10.2019)

Overview.

Julia Goerges picks up her first win since the US Open fourth-round finish, saving 11/13 break points to beat Margarita Gasparyan, 6-4, 6-2, in an hour and a half. It is her first outing since making a significant change to her team, splitting with new coach Sebastian Sachs and physiotherapist Florian Zitzelsberger. Goerges has reached just three quarterfinals in the season, compared to her 2018 and 2017 totals of nine and eight, respectively. The fifth seed, who made her debut at the Upper Austrian capital ten years ago, is 2-3 in the second rounds, going as far as the final in 2012 — lost to the then world no. 1 Azarenka.

Andrea Petkovic faced just one breakpoint before destroying Jil Teichmann, who has won two WTA titles in the season, 6-1, 6-1. It was a repeat of last week’s Beijing first-round match, wherein the 32-year-old had to put a bit more effort to win, 7-6, 6-3. It was also her 30th main draw match of the season (13-17). Last year, Petkovic participated at Linz for the first time since 2015 and registered her first wins since 2013. She defeated Goerges and Mladenovic en route her second semifinal appearance at the tournament; the first one came in 2010. So far, in 2019, she has gone 0-5 in round-of-16 matches and 1-10 in sets.

The thirtysomething former top 10 players have met five times in the past, with Petkovic edging 3-2. Last year at Linz, she edged her compatriot, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4, in the first round after saving a match point. It was the third three-set match in this head-to-head record. Goerges is still expected to level the series.
