Alex de Minaur vs. Jannik Sinner – Prediction – ATP Sofia (Bulgaria) 12.11.2020

H2H: Alex de Minaur v Jannik Sinner – comparison.

The pair met once in the finals of ATP Next Gen Finals last year when Jannik Sinner raced to a dominant straight-set win (4-2 4-1 4-2), forcing Alex de Minaur to finish as the runner-up for the second consecutive season. Both of these players enjoyed a hugely successful season in 2019 but haven’t performed at the same level so far in 2020, which was partly due to fitness issues. Considering their form in the run-up to this week and ability, there isn’t much between these two, and anyone could win this evenly-poised quarterfinal clash.

Jannik Sinner set up a mouth-watering quarterfinal clash with Alex de Minaur after defeating the lucky loser Marc Andrea Huesler in the second round on Wednesday. The Italian was in control of the match right from the start and broke the big-serving Swiss’ serve once in each set, 6-3 6-4. The talented Jannik Sinner won both of his matches in this campaign in straight sets, and in fact, he did not drop more than four games in any of the four sets that he has played, 6-2 6-4 against Marton Fucsovics in the first round.

Reaching the quarterfinal of ATP Sofia on debut appearance is an excellent result for the 19-year-old Jannik Sinner especially considering he suffered an injury and was forced to retire from his second-round match against Andrey Rublev in Vienna a couple of weeks ago. After losing to Pablo Carreno Busta and Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinal of ATP Rotterdam and French Open, respectively, Jannik Sinner edged past Gilles Simon in the quarterfinal of ATP Cologne recently to register his best result of the season.

Alex de Minaur overcame a spirited Aslan Karatsev in straight sets to confirm his quarterfinal berth in Sofia. Playing his first match of the campaign on Wednesday, the third seed twice recovered from a break deficit in the second set and later saved two set points (on serve) at 4-5, 6-4 7-6. The top-ranked Aussie, who hadn’t won a main draw match in ATP Tour events this year until last month, will now make his second quarterfinal appearance in the space of four weeks. He recently defeated the likes of Marcos Giron and Grigor Dimitrov to reach the finals in Antwerp.
